In Zeiten von orchestralen Vergewaltigungen und lästigen Keyboard-Elementen tut es endlich wieder mal gut eine ordentliche Old-School Black Metal Scheibe in sich zu saugen. Was die Österreicher den Schwarzmetall-Fans mit „Sacrifice At Dawn“ in die Ohren schleudern ist aggressiver, hasserfüllter und gnadenloser Black Metal. Ohne irgendwelchen Schnick-Schnack wird eine einzigartige Atmosphäre erzeugt, die pure Energie vom Trommelfell aus in die Adern fließen lässt.

Allein beim Opener „Walpurgisnacht“ ist sofort klar, dass die drei Österreicher nicht zum Spaßen hier sind. Einfache Riffs, niedermetzelnde Drums und ein Gesang der längst vergessene Dämonen zum Leben erweckt – mehr kann man dazu nicht mehr sagen.

Die Linie des Altschul-Black Metals wird in den weiteren Tracks fortgeführt und sorgt damit für ein angenehmes Gesamtbild des Albums.

Ein wenig negativ auffallend, sind allerdings die manchmal zu hoch geratenen Geschrei-Elemente – fast könnte man meinen gequälte Tiere herauszuhören. Absicht oder nicht, wer weiß?

Auf jeden Fall ist „Sacrifice At Dawn“ eine solide Scheibe, die es Wert ist gehört zu werden. Man darf sich also auf weitere Veröffentlichung der Österreicher freuen – ich zumindest tue es!

Have you listened to Thoughts yet? If not, then you’re missing out on a unique Death Metal album. Thoughts is a collection of various influences and changes up at the drop of a dime.

A stimulating tension melds from this album churning morbid rythm and riffing. Philosopher provides precise and basic styling Death Metal. The rythmic emphasis harbors riffs cycling in groups whose motion mirrors resolution to the themes in each song.

Their drummer adds so much to the musical onslaught that he changes simple riffs into powerful statements. The vocals are aggressive and rip your face off which makes the music more genius. Not that they play really complex pieces but they change tempo and it feels so tight you have to admire their musicianship. The complexity comes from the arrangements. Impressive! Thoughts is an album full of heavy, melancholic Death Metal: an array of trashing riffs added with melody and powerful drumming. Inlfuences of Morbid Angel and early Nile (especially in the solo of Beyond Darkness and the intro of Dreamside) can also be heard.

Man stelle sich folgendes Szenario vor: Draußen ist es wieder einmal bestialisch heiß, jede Menge Stress mit der Arbeit und dann tritt man in die verdreckte Wohnung ein und will einfach nur die angestauten Aggressionen abbauen! Wie soll man am besten vorgehen? Ganz einfach, man legt die neue Scheibe von Polymorph in den Player und trainiert ordentlich seine Nackenmuskulatur bis man umfällt!

Obwohl der Sound besser hätte ausfallen können, ist „Disgraceful Supper“ eine ordentliches Stück Underground-Death-Metal, ja eigentlich schon fast Brutal-Death. Allein der Anfang mit „Innocent Suffering“ haut ordentlich rein und schlittert haarscharf an der Grenze der musikalischen Perversion vorbei (im positiven Sinne).

Bereits seit mehr als 11 Jahren machen die Jungs von Polymorph Musik, und man kann getrost ohne Zweifel sagen, dass dies eines ihrer besseren Alben ist, wenn nicht das Beste. Gnadenlos werden auch die weiteren Tracks in die Hörgänge der Zuhörer gehämmert und nach „In The Eyes of Death „ ist man körperlich am Ende – vorausgesetzt man hat die Haare ordentlich fliegen lassen.

Andere Magazine mögen schreiben, dass „Disgraceful Supper“ Schrott und unbrauchbar ist – ich bin da anderer Meinung! Der Sound ist wie bereits erwähnt etwas bescheiden ausgefallen, allerdings stimmt die Atmosphäre und das ist mir sogar wichtiger. Wer also auf brachialen Underground-Death steht, sollte unbedingt mal reinhören und sich sein eigenes Bild von der Band sowie von ihrem neuen Album machen.

“Wake up… time to die!” Greece is not well-known for their death-metal, so when I got it, I was pretty anxious to hear this demo (six songs plus intro, outro and two bonus songs). According to the short bio I got with this CD, Project Havok plays ‘brutal, hyperweight death/grind.’ After putting this thing on, I must conclude that the grind-part should be ignored. Instead, I would add the word ‘industrial’. The first song starts with a few Bolt-thrower riffs, but as I whole this is best described as ‘extremely heavy, downtuned bulldozer deathmetal’. Havok combines fast blastparts with slow threatening passages. The guitars have a Mortician-sound over them, the drums sound cold and murderous and the vocals also have this really ‘mechanic’ sound. When I come to think of it, this is the most original piece of metal I heard for a long while, and each time I hear this demo I grow more and more excited! At first, I was thinking of criticising the ‘lack of variation’ but after a while I realised that this misplaced idea comes from the fact that the guitars are so distorted that after a while every song sounds like eachother while actually they are quite different. The production is okay by demo-standards although occasionally the guitarsound becomes a bit ‘blurry.’ This is about the only negative thing I have to say about ‘Severly Damaged’ and if I was in the band I would’ve also left out the bonus rehearsal versions of ‘Advanced Level Decay’ and ‘Inbreeding Havok’ (the original ‘Inbreeding Havok’ is brilliant by the way!!). I love the way this band creates the most apocalyptic atmosphere I heard since Axis of Perdition. This is something new, and while I realize not everyone will like their insane downtuned deathstorm I can advice all ‘progressive’ death metallers to check this shit out as soon as it becomes more widely available!! I truly hope the band continues on this path and will not be tempted into becoming the 2.788.321th Cannibal Corpse clone just to please the masses…Considering the fact that this is a demo, as well as the first release of the band I come to the following score:

Sie sind wieder da! Nachdem ihr letztes Album „Anti-Vision“ schon fast 3 Jahre auf dem Buckel hat, melden sich die Jungs von Punishable Act wieder zurück. Um die Wartezeit auf das im Frühjahr 2007 erscheinende „Rhythm of Destruction“ zu verkürzen, wird mit „From the Heart to the Crowed“ das bisherige Schaffenswerk der Berliner Revue passiert. Die alten Songs aus den ersten 5 Alben (wobei die meisten schon ausverkauft sind) wurden komplett neu eingespielt und abgemischt, sodass der Sound noch fetter und homogener wirkt. Verfeinert wird die Scheibe zusätzlich durch einen Haufen namhafter Gastsänger wie u.a. Kid D. (Ryker’s), Snoopy (Crushing Caspars), Mike War (Charly’s War, Proof, Jaylan) uvm. Als besonderes Schmankerl packte man auch noch 3 Songs von „Rhythm of Destruction“ drauf, wo vor allem die letzte Nummer „Forever“ besonders heraus sticht. Wenn das neue Album das Niveau dieser 3 Tracks halten kann, dann dürfen die Fans einen wahren Kracher erleben.

Schön, dass es in den Zeiten von Emocore und Metalcore auch noch so richtige „Schlag in die Fresse“ -Bands gibt!
