Impiety – Kaos Kommand 696
‘Bestial Genocidal Goatvomit’, ‘Bloodred Angelshred’ and ‘Christfuckingchrist’ are just three songtitles of this really satanic CD. If you’re religious don’t buy this CD and don’t even THINK of reading the lyrics. Luckily most metalheads ain’t religious, so they can all enjoy the true evil on this record… The CD opens with a church choir which is being shredded to pieces by submachineguns after a few seconds. Then a distorted scream, followed up by eight songs (ten if you own the digipack like me) of violent black/thrash/death metal. It’s a bit of a typical Osmose record, gloomy and raw blackened thrash metal is their trademark. Impiety sounds a bit like Antheus, or even like Arkhon Infaustus.
These guys come from Singapore, and started out in 1990. They’ve been active for more than 13 years and you can hear that. Even though the CD is chaotic and distorted, and has a raw (I didn’t say: bad) production, they never seem to end up in utter dissaray. It’s just their style to be chaotic, and since they view themselves as very evil and very demonic, you shouldn’t be surprised. The digipack contains two bonustracks: ‘Black Church’ (a Sextrash cover) and ‘Godess of Perversity’(Blasphemy cover).
I really enjoyed this CD and if you like this style of music you should really consider buying this thing (and it has a cool cover as well…)

Infenal Defiance – Demolieder
Infernal Defiance gründeten sich bereits 1997, damals unter dem Namen Bloody Shade, dieser wurde 2000 allerdings verworfen und man nannte sich eben Infernal Defiance. Doch kaum war dieser name gefunden, trennte sich die Band nur ein Jahr später aufgrund musikalischer und persönlicher Differenzen. Und nun sind sie wieder da!
3 Lieder können auf deren Interpräsenz heruntergeladen werden. Es wird aber auch darauf verwiesen das die Lieder alle noch überarbeitet werden, das heißt im Klartext das es eigentlich Schwachsinn ist das ich im Moment eine Rezension schreibe. Aber es geht ja nicht primär nur darum fertige Produkte zu beurteilen, sondern auch auf Bands aufmerksam zu machen.
Und diese Aufmerksamkeit kann man Infernal Defiance ruhig mal schenken.
So schlecht präsentieren sie sich gar nicht, obwohl der Klang sicherlich nicht gerade das Gelbe vom Ei ist, aber man erkennt die Strukturen, und ganz so verwaschen das man die Musik nicht mehr einschätzen kann ist es sicherlich auch nicht.
Geboten wird, … ja was eigentlich? Death Metal würde ganz grob passen, dieser erscheint aber nicht in einem Knüppelgewand, sondern kommt vielmehr etwas atmosphärischer und mit viel Keyboardunterstützun daher. Ich bin mir sicher das ich so etwas schonmal gehört habe, nur zu dumm das ich es nicht zuordnen kann. Aber so komme ich zumindest um Vergleiche herum hehe. Ich kann aber auch nicht stehen lassen das es sich nur um Death Metal handelt, dafür wiegt der schwarzmetallische Einfluss etwas zu schwer. Ich könnte es auch Dark Metal mit einer Portion Brachialität nennen, das würde wohl eher passen.
Eingängigkeit scheint im Duden auf jeden Fall schon nachgeschlagen worden zu sein, denn die 3 Lieder gehen allesamt recht fix ins Blut.
Einzig “Diabolical Challenge” macht da eine kleine Ausnahme da sich das Lied eher in ruhigen Gewässern aufhält, was der Stimmung aber nur gut tut. Und der Name des Liedes ist durchaus Programm, da kann man den Jungs eine gute Umsetzung bescheinigen.
Anders die beiden verbleibenden Werke, “ab nach vorn” ist größtenteils die Devise, und das steht Infernal Defiance wesentlich besser. Würde ich zu Anglizismen neigen würde ich großkotzig verkünden “DAS ROCKT” oder “das kickt ass”. Dies würde es auf jeden Fall sehr gut ausdrücken. Da wackelt das Bein meine Freunde. Gewöhnungsbedürftig sind allerdings die elektronischen Beiwerke, dies könnte noch verbessert werden, da scheint es einige Male nicht zu passen, es sei denn es soll bewusst etwas irr klingen, was ich mir ob meines Gesamteindruckes auch gut vorstellen kann. Denn manches Mal klingt das Zusammenspiel regelrecht paradox. Was mir aber durchaus bei besserer Ausarbeitung gefallen könnte. Und nun fällt mir ein kleiner Verweis zu einer Band ein, ha! Azmodan spielen ähnlich auf wie Infernal Defiance, aber es sei erwähnt das vorliegende Lieder allesamt metallischer daherkommen als genanntes Soloprojekt.
Die eigene Note von Infernal Defiance ist ausbaubar würde ich sagen, aber sie befinden sich auf gutem Wege, ich bin schon ein klein wenig gespannt was sie noch so zustande bringen, Potenzial ist jedenfalls vorhanden. Das Orgelspiel ist sicherlich nicht jedermanns Geschmack, und da sollte man auch noch dran arbeiten, obwohl einige Pasaagen im Zusammenspiel schon gute Ansätze zeigen. Ich finde es nicht schlecht was hier geboten wird, eine Punktevergabe erachte ich aber als völligen Schwachsinn, dies ist nicht ausgereift und wieso sollte ich 3 Lieder einer Band welche sich gerade erst wiedergefunden hat Punkte geben??? Geht einfach auf ihre Seite und mopst euch die Lieder, dann habt ihr einen eigenen Eindruck.

Inhumate – Life
This band already walks the earth for 14 years but up to recently I had only heard of them. ‘Life’ is the fourth full-lenght in a planned serie of seven albums that encompass the process of life and time. Or something. Personally I am more interested in the music of Inhumate, and I like that music pretty much. There are 15 tracks on this CD and a16th part which encompasses some live-songs. The style of this band is grind/death with a clean sound, simple but effective riffing, and killer drums. On top of that ‘Life’ has probably the most varied vokills I ever heard on an album! Really, singer Christophe screams, grunts, vomits, laughs, coughs, barks and even uses ‘clean’ vocals (on ‘the Scorpion’)!! Although the songs ‘Rage’ and ‘No Answer’ contain some grooving parts, most of the songs consist mainly of blasting and skull-smashing grind passages. I have to admit, all songs are of high quality (except for the weak song ‘Destiny’), and Inhumate is obviously a good band. If you put this CD on during a party, then none of your grind- and deathmetal friends are gonna object, but… I miss this special SOMETHING! It’s all good stuff but I miss the spark that makes me want to change my room into a freaking moshpit……and I know what the problem is. This CD makes me remember my ‘Cannibal Corpse-syndrom’. Not that Inhumate sounds like that band, but with Cannibal Corpse I always have the same thing as I have with this band. Inhumate is a band that belongs on stage!! The live-part of ‘Life” is outstanding, and better than the studio-songs. Now I’m listening to the insane grindmonster I want to hear! If this band comes to the Netherlands in the future than you can be sure that I’ll be there to see it! For now I suggest that you surf to www.inhumate.com, download some of their songs, and see for yourself if you like them. My compliments for the cool cover by the way, and I’ll see you guys on the road…

French band Inhumate first saw daylight in 1990, with a clear image of what their goals would be. Now, 16 years later, they are still holding on strongly to their beliefs and their love for the Underground Metal scene. Through the years, they have declined many a record deals, being a 100% Underground, independent, self-produced band, supporting the Metal cause.
Life is the fourth full-length in a planned serie of seven albums that encompass the process of life and time. Internal Life is the first part, an illustration of the antenatal life. Followed by Expulsion, the moment of birth, and the self-explanatory Growth.
Inhumate is not your regular Grindcore band. They deliver a Grind / Death clean sound with effective riffing and exquisite drum work. Fast changes, blastbeats by the dozen, Yannick does it all and more, changing his drums into a war machine of mass destruction. Most of the time, Grindcore guitarists tend to be pushed into the background due to the massive wave of drum and vocal violence, though David manages to show everyone he is a decent shredder. On top of that, singer Christophe probably has one of the most varied Grindcore vocals out there, shifting from low screams to high screams, grunts, vomits, clean vocals, barks, you name it. Next to the 15 normal tracks, the 16th part contains some live songs. Live these guys are a very tight unit, showing they all master their instruments and everything is well-rehearsed.
Inhumate are an admirable self-realised band. They show everyone you do not need a record company deal to tour throughout Europe, produce professional albums and achieve a higher status in the Metal scene. Having the freedom to express their own and only their own creativity and ideas, they provide us with an outstanding album of controlled madness and original brutality.

Insision – Beneath the Folds of Flesh
Simply put: this is my favourite death metal band. Insision comes from Sweden and plays US-style death metal in the tradition of Suffocation, Disgorge, and Deeds of Flesh. With but one difference: Insision does it better than those bands mentioned!! Why? Because singer Carl Birath and co. combine good songwriting with sufficient brutallity and intelligent lyrics. Normally I don’t give a flying fuck about lyrics but it’s really worth it to give some thought to them on this album. The song ‘Trapped Within’, for example, goes about a man who ‘sees’ things but the doctors don’t take him serious. They say he’s insane and the man commits suicide in the end. Or the even cooler lyrics of the song ‘Ex Oblivione’ where someone goes searching for Eden but only finds an empty void where his soul is drained by Chtulu. If you follow the songs with the booklet in hand, it really adds to the excitement.
But even if you don’t care about the lyrics, ‘Beneath the Folds of Flesh’ is worth your notice. The before mentioned Carl Birath has a very pleasant grunt, somewhat different than you where used to. He’s definetly one of my favourite grunters. The guitars and drums also have their own ‘hooks’ and it is safe for me to say that Insision has it’s own face (unlike the many clones on this planet). Nine pearls on this album, all songs are good!!! And opener ‘World Impaled’ is amongst the best metal songs in the world. What else can I say but: BUY this masterpiece!!!
Next month (July 2004), they’ll bring out their new CD ‘Revealed and Worshipped’. They’re currently touring through Europe. Don’t miss them like I did (thx to the fukking Dutch railway company. Train was FOURTY minutes late!!!). www.insision.com
