Monstrosity – Rise to Power

I heard so much good things about Monstrosity that I decided to buy a CD from this band. And because George Fischer (Cannibal Corpse) has sung in this band, I decided that this was probably a quality CD and that I didn’t need to take time to listen to it in the store. The cool CD cover also helped to mask that this CD… is quite BORING. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind to listen to a good mid-tempo death metal album (stuff like Grave is awesome!), but there is a total lack of agression on this record. The band is technically good and they sound very modern, but the sound is too light. Somewhere at track 5 or 6 there is a slight increase in speed but the spark of hope in me quickly burned out… The rest of the songs is still the same.

So with pain in my heart I give this CD a low score. Why does it bother me? Because it’s obviously clear that this is a talented band. If it results in a boring CD though, I can’t give it a high score.
